Safety Alerts Basics
Under the Safety menu item, you will find two options: Video Alerts and Dashboard. Toggle between these two by clicking either option in the top right corner:
-
Video Alerts
Under Video Alerts, you will find a list of all the safety events your dash cameras have triggered. You can see what type of violation triggered the event, and you have the option to review these events and make them coachable.
-
- Sort Events by clicking on the column headings such as Event ID, Datetime, and Place.
-
- Filter Events by Type, Vehicle, Driver, etc., by clicking the dropdown arrow underneath the column heading and selecting an option.
-
Dashboard
The Dashboard is where you will find your drivers listed along with their Driver Safety Score.
Using Safety Alerts for Coaching
Making Events Coachable
- Select Video Alerts
- Select Event ID
Under Details, you will see the type of violation along with the date, location, driver, and vehicle associated with the event.
šNote (for Netradyne camera users): Your Event ID in TruckSpy corresponds to the Alert Number in Netradyne.
- Check that the driver associated with the event is correct. If not, click Reassign, then select the correct driver from the drop-down box, and click Assign.
ā ļø If you notice that your drivers are often assigned incorrectly, it is most likely because the wrong driver is logged into the tablet. Encourage your drivers to log in at the beginning of their day and out at the end of the day to help prevent this issue.
- Choose whether to mark the event as Coachable, Not Coachable, or Not Applicable.
šNote: You can select Not Applicable for any driving event; however, it will remove the impact that event had on your driverās score (negative or positive).
If you would like to make the event coachable, select Make Coachable.
- This will open a coaching commentary box where you can enter a note for your driver.
- Select the camera view you would like to send to your driver.
- Click Convert to Coaching Session to send to your driver.
š”What happens on the Driverās end?
-
- If the driver is logged in on their tablet, they will receive an alert that they have a new coaching session to review. If not, the alert will pop up the next time they log in.
-
- Once the driver taps Coaching, they will see their training session.
-
- After tapping the Start Coaching Module, the driver reviews the camera footage.
-
- The coaching commentary follows the video, and the driver must sign to complete the training session.
-
- Once your driver completes the coaching session, you will see a date / time under the Coaching Completed At column in Video Alerts.
Reading and Using the Driver Safety Score
How is the Driver Score Calculated?
Their positive and negative driving events determine each driverās score, and how greatly these events impact their score depends on their total time spent driving. Think of the score as points per hourā the more points, the better.
For example, Driver 1 drives for 15 minutes, while Driver 2 drives for 15 hours. The camera detects the same events for both drivers during those periods, but Driver 2 will have a higher score. Because Driver 2 drove safely for a longer time, the adverse events impacted their score less.
šNote: Depending on your company's needs, you may change the point values associated with each driving event. For instance, hard acceleration (an event typically flagged by our system) may not be as big of an issue for a small passenger vehicle as it would be in a giant pickup truck pulling a trailer (although these are both labeled light-duty vehicles). The computer cannot determine what is most important to a safety manager, as many external factors affect this.
If you would like to adjust certain events' impact on your driversā safety scores, please reach out to support@truckspy.io; our team would be happy to assist you with this.
How to Read the Driver Safety Score
To access your driver scores, go to your Safety Dashboard.
You will notice several numbers next to each driverās name:
- Score (Each driver starts out at 1000)
- Wheels turning minutes (minutes that the vehicle is moving/driver is driving). This is determined by GPS data pulled from the dashcam.
- Positive driving events
- Negative driving events/ risk observations
To see how each driverās score is broken down, click on the magnifying glass icon next to their score. This opens the Safety Score Detail, where events are listed along with how many points were added/deducted for each.
šNote: Remember that selecting Not Applicable on any driving event will remove the impact that event had on your driverās score (negative or positive).
Positive Driving Behaviors
To filter your Video Alerts by positive driving events, go to Video Alerts and select Driver Star in the dropdown menu under Type.
There are four triggers for positive driving events:
- Driver created following distance
- Driver moved over for a stopped vehicle (such as law enforcement or an ambulance)
- Full stop at stop signs (streak-related- driver stopped at 50 stop signs in a row, 100, etc.)
- Full stop at stop lights (streak-related)
^Example message on Video Alert
āUse Driver Star events to coach your drivers. Just as you would make a negative event coachable and send a note for your driver to review, positive events can be used as an incentive to let your driver know youāre paying attention to their good driving.
Using the Video Alerts Module in the Analytics Dashboard
Use this module to gain valuable insights about your safety alerts and tips for effective driver coaching.
Select Analytics from the left side menu, then select Video Alerts. Navigate between three tabs: Trends, Event Map, and Camera Event Coaching.
-
Trends
See your safety alert data sorted into graphics that make it easier to visualize trends, such as top alert types and camera events by driver.
-
Event Map
See your camera events from the past month highlighted on a map, color coded by event type.
šNote: Use the list in the top right corner of the map to filter events by type. Clicking once on an event type hides that type, clicking three times shows only events of that type.
-
Camera Event Coaching
Easily see how many camera events have been reviewed or still need reviewing, and whether your drivers are completing their coaching.
This dashboard also provides statistics to help gauge the effectiveness of your coaching.
