Step 1: Plan the Mounting Location
Before drilling anything, sit in the driver’s seat and verify:
- The tablet will not block the windshield view, mirrors, or gauges.
- The mount will not interfere with the shifter, switches, airbags, or leg room.
- The driver can reach and see the screen without leaning.
- The tablet can tilt and swivel freely without hitting any surface.
- You can easily dock and undock the tablet from the seat.
Step 2: Attach the RAM Base Plate to the Dashboard
- Choose a solid surface - metal bracket, dash support, or back the area with the RAM backing plate if mounting through thin plastic
- Hold the RAM base in position and mark the four mounting hole locations
- Drill the pilot holes using a small bit first, then step up to the final size
- Insert the RAM base from the front and feed the screws through the holes
- From behind (or inside the dash cavity): add washers and lock nuts and tighten until the base does not flex when pushed
- NOTE: If mounting through a thin panel, always use the included backing plate to spread the load and prevent cracking.
- From the left navigation menu, go to Configuration > Integrations.
Step 3: Assemble the RAM Arm & Cradle
- Bolt the RAM ball to the rear of the EZ-Roll’r dock using the supplied screws, washers, and lock nuts
- Seat one ball on the dash base and the other on the back of the dock
- Slide the double-socket RAM arm over both balls and lightly hand-tighten the center knob
- Adjust the angle and reach so the tablet will face the driver squarely
- Once positioned correctly, fully tighten the center knob
Step 4: Wire the Hardwire Power Kit
NOTE: If you are not comfortable working with vehicle wiring, have a qualified shop electrician complete this step
- Locate a 12V power source and identify a good point (bare metal, existing ground bolt)
- TIP: Switched vs Constant Power - An ignition-switched source (on/off with the key) is the standard choice and prevents battery drain. However, connecting to a constant 12V source is sometimes preferable - for example, when the tablet needs to stay on for overnight data sync, remote monitoring, or when the device manages its own sleep/wake cycle. If using a constant source, ensure the Vehicle's battery is adequate and consider adding a low-voltage cutoff relay to protect against drain..
- Connect the RED wire from the power kit to your chosen 12V source through the inline fuse provided.
- Connect the BLACK wire from the power kit to the chassis ground
- Mount or clip the inline fuse to an accessible location for future servicing
- Turn on the ignition and verify that the 12V is present at the kit’s output (USB-C connector)
Step 5: Route and Secure the Cable
- Run the USB-C power cable from the charger to the EZ-Roll’r dock
- Pass through existing dash openings or grommets wherever possible - avoid cutting new holes
- Keep the cable away from: sharp edges, moving parts (pedals, steering column), and hot areas (heater ducts)
- Leave a small service loop near the dock so the tablet can tilt and swivel freely
- Secure the cable with the included cable clamp and zip ties every few inches - it must not hang loose or be reachable by feet
Step 6: Dock the Tablet and Test
- Seat the bottom of the Galaxy Tab Active 3 into the dock first, aligning with the USB-C connector
- Press the top of the tablet in until the side clamps or top latch snap firmly into place
- Turn the ignition on and confirm the tablet powers up and shows a charging indicator
- Drive slowly over a rough surface and watch for any vibration, bounce, or mount movement
- Re-tighten the RAM arm knob and base fasteners if any movement is detected
Final Safety Checklist
Before returning the vehicle to service, verify all the following
- Tablet does not block the driver’s view of the road, mirrors, or critical gauges
- Driver can reach the screen with a normal arm extension - no leaning is required
- Mount does not interfere with airbags, shifter, parking brake, or critical switches
- Stepping in and out of the vehicle is unobstructed
- Cable is fully secured and cannot be snagged by feet or wrapped around any moving part
